Sports Dentistry | Grapevine, Colleyville, & Southlake, TX Sports Dentist

As a former American Tae Kwon Do competitor and an avid flag football player, Dr. Parker knows first-hand the importance of wearing custom fitted mouthguards to protect teeth and gums from injury during athletic events. He provides mouthguards for several high school football teams, including the Southlake Carroll Dragons, Colleyville Heritage Panthers, Grapevine Mustangs, Keller Indians, and Plano East Panthers. For the past 29 years, professional fighters in multiple fighting arts have relied upon Dr. Parker’s mouthguards. Including the new
Armourbite Technology.
Dr. Parker strongly urges everyone, children and adults, participating in sporting activities to wear mouthguards. It’s easy to take some things for granted until they are suddenly gone. Properly fitted mouthguards should be standard equipment!
Custom-fighting Mouthguard:
| During your appointment, your dental professional will take impressions of your teeth. Using these, they will create a model of your teeth and design a mouthguard to fit over the model. The Custom-fighting Mouthguard is made with an extra layer of thermoplastic material layered in the posterior teeth. Upon fitting to the patient’s mouth, the mouthguard is warmed on the biting surface and the patient is instructed to bite only slightly into the mouthguard with their lower teeth, leaving an indention that can be used repeatedly to lock the lower jaw into the fighter’s best and strongest bite. The thickness of this mouthguard allows the fighter to breath in and out through the mouth, while still keeping the jaws clenched or closed together, thereby minimizing the chance of concussion. This is the mouthguard that Dr. Parker has made for for Full-Contact Martial Artists, MMA fighters, Boxers, and other athletes for the last 29 years. |
Custom-fitted Athletic Mouthguard:
| During your appointment, your dental professional will take impressions of your teeth. Using these, they will create a model of your teeth and design a mouthguard to fit over the model. Because the guards are customized to fit your mouth, they are more comfortable and less likely to interfere with speech or breathing. This is the mouthguard that Dr. Parker has supplied for high school football teams and young and old athletes across the metroplex for the last 29 years. |
Care for your Mouthguard:
| You should always wear mouthguards during practice and games. Never chew on your mouthguard as this can weaken the material and decrease its ability to protect your teeth. Holes, tears, and other damage may also irritate your gums or soft tissue in your mouth causing pain and other problems. If you notice damage, replace your mouthguard immediately.
Before and after each use, check your mouthguard for damage and rinse it with cold water or mouth rinse. You should also regularly clean your guard with a toothbrush and toothpaste or in a solution of soapy water. Be sure to rinse your mouthguard well after cleaning and store it in a firm, perforated container. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight or near high temperatures as this can damage the guard. Most importantly, you should schedule regular dental check-ups, including one right before the playing season starts. When you come to DFW Smiles for your check-up, be sure to bring your mouthguard and discuss any problems or concerns you may have with Dr. Parker. |
